What guests say

  • Reviewers return again and again to the mountain views and the stylish, comfortable rooms, calling the setting peaceful and secluded — several single out clear night skies ideal for stargazing.
  • Guests describe the staff as exceptionally friendly and helpful, noting they arrange hikes and offer strong, specific advice on local activities.
  • Several guests mention a nearby taverna within a short walk, an easy dinner option given how remote the estate is.

The recurring gripe: Some guests found breakfast simple or overpriced for the quality.

The story

The design leans on raw material: smooth concrete, wood, metal and natural finishes assembled in a bohemian chic minimalist style, according to the hotel. Bathrooms are poured concrete with Italian-style showers and black faucets. The estate opened in 2019 as part of the Monastery Estate Group, which also runs the Monastery Venetian Harbour in Chania old town and the Monastery Guesthouse in Sougia.

Eleven rooms span Senior, Junior, Premium and Honeymoon Retreats, most with a private pool and built-in sun loungers looking onto the mountains or the olive farm; Suites add hot tubs, and a disability-accessible Cozy Room rounds out the range. The spa area holds a sauna, hammam and massages, and there's a seasonal outdoor pool, a hot tub and garden terraces. The on-site restaurant runs a breakfast buffet and other meals.

The setting is properly remote: 68 km (41 mi) from Chania International Airport, 4 km (2.5 mi) from Sougia and 33 km from the Samaria Gorge. Free private parking and an airport shuttle help, but the estate takes cash only. Best for those who want mountain quiet within reach of the coast.
