Book it if

Couples wanting a quiet beachfront base near Platanias, with a spa, two restaurants and the option of a suite with its own private or swim-up pool.

Skip it if

Families — this is strictly adults-only, with no cots or extra beds — and anyone arriving without a car, given the remote setting.

What guests say

  • Guests repeatedly praise the staff as friendly, caring and attentive, singling out the service as a highlight of the stay.
  • Breakfast and food quality come up again and again, with the main restaurant's cooking called excellent by many reviewers.
  • Reviewers describe the rooms as beautiful, clean and spacious, and note strong value in how well the facilities are kept up.
  • Several guests value the peaceful, remote setting, though some flag the same quiet as a drawback if you arrive without a car.

The recurring gripe: The remote location is hard to reach without a car for some guests.

The story

Renovated to five stars and opened in 2020–2021, the property is arranged as three buildings — ground level plus two floors, served by lifts — holding 67 suites and 171 beds. It sits directly on the beach, and the architecture makes the most of the position: sea-view rooms look toward the Aegean and the Saint Theodore nature reserve, with certain suites carrying private rooftop pools or swim-up access to the shared pool.

Dining runs across two kitchens. Matter, the main restaurant, covers buffet breakfast and dinner with a la carte lunch, listing vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options; the 35° Cretan restaurant serves a la carte dinners in a traditional setting, though it isn't air-conditioned. The Orion Spa adds sauna, steam room, hot tub and a relaxation lounge, plus massage and body treatments, and the Akylas gym is free. An outdoor pool with a shallow end and pool bar completes the picture.

Location is quiet: 1 km (0.6 mi) from Maleme, 3 km (1.9 mi) from Platanias, and 15 km (9.3 mi) from Chania old town, with free private parking on site. The airport figure varies in the source — the description says 27 km (17 mi), the FAQ 28 km. Part of Louis Hotels, this is a beachfront base for couples who want calm over commotion.
