The story
The hotel takes over four heritage-protected industrial tannery buildings from the 1800s, in the Tabakaria neighbourhood on the Chania waterfront. Rather than dress the stone as traditional luxury, the design keeps a minimalist, boutique register that references the site's working past. There are just 20 suites, each one waterfront, ranging from 40 to 104 sqm, with sea views the hotel positions deliberately away from the crowds.
Periplous Seaside is the single restaurant, serving breakfast, dinner, high tea and a cocktail hour, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. It runs on a Molteni kitchen under Executive Chef Nikos Mylonakis, whose menu reworks organic Cretan cooking. The spa adds a heated indoor pool with hydromassage, an outdoor pool and jacuzzi, hammam, steam room, fitness centre and a full massage list.
Chania International Airport is 11 km (7 mi) away, with a shuttle service on offer, and there is free private parking. Koum Kapi Beach sits 850 m (2,800 ft) off; the town centre is 1.6 km (1 mi), which guests describe as a roughly 20-minute walk. Note that payment is cash only. A precise, waterfront base for travellers who want quiet over bustle.
