The story
Laid out like a small village, the resort uses local natural stone, wood and concrete in a minimalist, mid-century idiom that earned it an AHEAD Design Award. Buildings sit low among tropical planting, banana and palm trees, looking towards Chania town and the bamboo fields beyond. Each of the 105 rooms carries a retractable glass wall, dissolving the line between interior and private terrace.
Rooms range from Tropical and Sapphire Bungalows to family pavilions, a two-bedroom Family Villa and a One-Bedroom Villa with Sea View. Two restaurants anchor the dining: Beach House serves Greek and Mediterranean plates across the day, while Gallina leans French and Greek in a romantic register. The hotel names Executive Chef Dionysios Pliatsikas, described on its site as an award-winning specialist in neo-Greek cuisine. Soma Spa, a gym pavilion, yoga and two pools round out the wellness offer.
Chania International Airport lies 14 km (8.7 mi) away, with a paid shuttle, and the centre of Kato Daratso is 1.9 km (1.2 mi) off. Old town Chania is a close walk, and free private parking is on site. Once part of the Domes Reserves brand within Marriott's Luxury Collection, the property began life as Casa Cook Chania.
