The story

The building came out of the ground in May 2022, and the design leans into its setting: earthy tones, regional detailing and furnishings the hotel describes as boho-chic, sophisticated but unhurried. The name KYMANI derives from a word meaning "the adventurous sea traveller," a reference to the prehistoric boat journeys that first brought people to this stretch of southern Crete. Eleven rooms keep the scale intimate.

Room categories run from Junior Suites and Deluxe Doubles with sea or side-sea views to a Double with pool view, a Suite with pool view, and a Deluxe Suite with spa bath. Each has air-conditioning, a private bathroom, a tea and coffee maker and a work desk. Outside there is a seasonal outdoor pool and a sun terrace; breakfast is continental, and can be ordered through the hotel's mobile app.

Plakias Beach sits about 198 m (650 ft) away, and the village centre is roughly 396 m (1,300 ft) off — an eight-minute walk. Chania International Airport is 137 km (85 mi) away, or 82 km (51 mi) by the shortest driving route; Rethymno's Venetian Harbour is 33 km. Free off-site private parking is offered. A polished small hotel for adults who want the beach close and the pace slow.
