The story
The Syntopia was renovated in 2019 across two buildings, and the design shows in the details reviewers keep returning to. The layout spreads across a garden landscape with two outdoor pools and a sun terrace, one of them a rooftop pool ringed by sunbeds. The hotel describes the look as boho and modern, an adults-only property built for slow days rather than crowds.
All 127 rooms come with a private balcony facing the mountains or the pool, plus satellite TV, a refrigerator and a tea and coffee maker. Categories run from Double Rooms with inland, pool or sea views up to Superior Rooms with a Jacuzzi and Deluxe Suites, some with a sofa bed. Restaurant THE BITE serves international and vegetarian dishes, and an all-inclusive plan covers breakfast, lunch and dinner in buffet form. The spa adds sauna, hammam, foot bath and a range of massages and facials.
The hotel sits opposite a golden sandy beach, with the nearest sand about 110 m (350 ft) away and the centre of Adelianos Kampos around 300 m (1,000 ft) on. Rethymnon lies roughly 6 km (3.7 mi) to the west, about a 15-minute drive; both Heraklion and Chania airports are around 72 km (45 mi). A verdict: a calm, design-minded base for couples happy to hire a car.
